Facebook is facing rumors of name changing
After changing the visual design of the Facebook app, Facebook is now planning to create a new multiverse, uncontrolled. Also, there are rumors about them changing the name of Facebook.
Facebook Inc., facing intense scrutiny over its business practices, is planning to rebrand the company with a new name that focuses on the metaverse, according to The Verge. The original Facebook app and service may remain unchanged in their branding, positioned under a parent company that counts other billion-user brands like Instagram and WhatsApp in its portfolio. Google already operates a similar structure with its Alphabet Inc. parent.
What is the rebrand they made?
The Facebook app brand is built on the core belief that people can do more together than alone.
Facebook’s in-house creative agency, Creative X created a brand design system that is now the foundation for the Facebook app’s global marketing communications.
Motion is an integral part of our new identity, incorporating subtle and intentionally imperfect movements that reflect the interaction between the human hand and digital content. Animated typography mirrors the moods and experiences of the people whose stories we tell.
Writing about the new brand identity in a medium post, Facebook App’s brand creative director John Slater writes: “Although the Facebook app’s logo and signature color are recognized around the world, we needed more tools to consistently visualize our strategy and help us better connect with people.”
Connect Conference
Facebook will host the 2021 edition of its “Connect” developer conference on October 28.
The conference, originally called Oculus Connect, was first held in 2014 after Facebook acquired the Oculus startup. Last year it was rebranded to “Facebook Connect”.
The Verge reported that the new name announcement will be made at the conference, or even sooner than that.
The Metaverse
Facebook is at the start of a journey to help build the next computing platform. Working with others, we’re developing what is often referred to as the metaverse — a new phase of interconnected virtual experiences using technologies like virtual and augmented reality. At its heart is the idea that by creating a greater sense of “virtual presence”, interacting online can become much closer to the experience of interacting in person. The metaverse has the potential to help unlock access to new creative, social and economic opportunities.
No one company will own and operate the metaverse. Like the internet, its key feature will be its openness and interoperability. Bringing this to life will take collaboration and cooperation across companies, developers, creators, and policymakers.
The “metaverse” is a set of virtual spaces where you can create and explore with other people who aren’t in the same physical space as you. You’ll be able to hang out with friends, work, play, learn, shop, create, and more. It’s not necessarily about spending more time online — it’s about making the time you do spend online more meaningful.
They’ve announced a plan to create 10,000 new high-skilled jobs within the European Union (EU) over the next five years.
They have also announced in July this year a $50 million investment in global research and program partners to ensure these products are developed responsibly.
According to the sci-fi novelist Neal Stephenson, who introduced the term in his 1992 novel, Snow Crash, the metaverse is a three-dimensional world where avatars of real people conduct virtual lives.
So, whether it is the future, a novel from the last century, or a joke between Flash fans, we will wait and see what will soon become a revolutionized way of connecting with friends.
